London MCM Expo 2009

  • Drinking: Water
It's been four days since I went, but I'm still riding that high of the experience. A sweaty, geeky, deodorant lacking high, but a high nonetheless. This MCM Expo was by far the best in my experience. It definitely blew October's trip away, although that was mainly because my friend, who wanted to go on Sunday suddenly cancelled, leaving me with pre booked Sunday tickets and a rainy day. The only saving graces back then were Street Fighter IV and meeting up with :iconavalon51:

Anyway, this one was awesome, despite initial fears of a repeat on the weather. Thankfully, I was blessed with sunny blue coloured days. Although with great solar power, comes great responsibility for not smelling. Unfortunately, I was in a bus full of fangirls and weaboos since the DLR was out of service. The first thing I said when I got on was 'Can somebody open the window?' What lulz to be had.

The line for the tickets was EPICALLY LONG. Seriously, and I was in the line for the pre booked tickets, and that was not cool. We decided to spend the time blowing bubbles, which caused to annoy rather than entertain.

Why did we have bubbles? Well, my friend, it was part of a master plan. It was simple logic really. Get bubbles, blow them, attract (fan)girls and forget about our heart crushing roneryn-I mean have fun. That plan failed. For many reasons:

1. The bubbles only went as far as one metre.
2. We attracted boys instead.
3. And a loli.

So yeah, never doing that again.

While we were at the expo, I learned a lesson that you all should take with you. Never use text messaging. Seriously. My friend, who oversplept and was running late was stranded at London Bridge for 30 minutes because of the fact that he tried to contact me through texting. I'm never going to notice a split second ring, so always call me, okay? And to be honest, he could have just followed the hundreds of cosplayers who were there. WHEN IN DOUBT FOLLOW THE ONE WITH PINK HAIR.

Saying there were hundreds of cosplayers may have been and understandment. This was the biggest turnout I've ever seen for the MCM Expo. They've even spilled out onto the grassy field that was usually untouched (now dubbed the weaboo breeding ground). And you could really feel the effect when you went inside the building, you were literally hit by a heat wave from the sheer number of people there. Dang, it's something I could do without.

Inside, it was the usual deal, look around and shop around for wares. I'm always surprised at the prices they charge. You really have to shop around to find good prices, and my shoe leather costs (ECONOMICS TERM BITCHES) was going through the roof. Surprisingly for me, I didn't buy any manga. They never stock any first volumes for anything I wanted, despite their really low prices. Oh well, I guess it's the interbuttz for me then.

However, I did buy a Death Note, which turns out to be a curious product. The packaging was in Japanese, and it came with distinctly Japanese Death Note stamps, but when I looked inside, the thing was in Chinese! Nevertheless, buying that was still a decision I wouldn't change.

I also bought a Haruko plushie, which as far as I saw, was like the only one in the expo. Seriously, it was like the only one surrounded by Naruto and Bleach ones. I had my hand on it the whole time when I was considering purchasing it, juuuuuust in case. I did buy in the end, although £10 seemed a bit to pricey for me. In Malaysia, I bought a bigger Syaoran plushie for half that price.

I bought some TWEWY pins as well, which I've had my eye on for a few months. TWEWY was an incredibly fun game, but I just pray that Squeenix won't make a sequel for it. I'm just saying.

My prize catch was my Revoltech Fraulein Yuki Nagato figure. She's my pride and joy now. I love her to bits. I was considering getting a Rin Figma, but everyone knows that if you buy Rin, you've got to get Len as well, but I didn't have enough cash.

But no freebies! I didn't know where to get them. D:

As for the games I played there, I got a hands on go at Marasura: The Demon Blade. I guess this pretty much confirms the game being released in Europe, which is awesome. And I played Taiko Drum Master with the proper drums instead of my wee lil touch screen, and it was a lot of fun (except having to play with one hand whilst trying to talk to someone on the phone). Someone snapped a shot of that when we were at the expo, but I can't find it on the vast internetworks. Oh well. I had a go at Batman: Arkham Asylum. It was fun, but I found the gameplay to be repetitive. ALSO NARUTO ON THE PS2 NARUTO IS DETERMINED TO BE THE BEST NINJA. :iconimhappyplz:

As for the cosplayers, the were some highlights.

The Mio cosplayers deserves their own paragraph because Mio is my wife. Mio playing Rock Band was fittingly awesome. Also Mio is my wife. Did I mention that Mio is my wife? Because Mio is my wife. Mio is my wife.

There were also the Power Rangers, as usual. It's to be expected for them to be there, as well as the Storm Troopers and Ghostbusters. They're always a hit at the expo. And for the first time, I saw Touhou cosplayers, although...not the right kind of people (read as gender) were cosplaying as them. The shota spy was so darn cute as well as the loli Soi Fong. The Alien cosplayer was cool as well, although it hissed at me when I fist punched him :/

Mio. Is. My. Wife.

I cosplayed as a communist :D

This journal entry is pretty long.

Anyway, I finally learned how to hug, which was pretty chill. I only hugged the cute asian girls. So yeah. My comrade on the other hand, although it was his first time, when ballistic with the hugging. At one point, he gave a spinning hug to a girl wearing a skirt. And I think physics can tell you what we saw because of that. He totally a registered sex criminal now :D

So my hug statistics show 1, 0, 1, 10-ish

Super improvement, yay.

I brought my nunchucks with me, and I was made to show of my 'skills' on film. It was so embarrasing! XO I hope I never get to see that video. I also challenged somebody to a nunchuck fight. I won. :D My opponent commented on how my nunchucks seemed to be teleporting. Just call me the light-speed prince of stick flailing =w=

And I got to meet some of my brigade members as well, :iconavalon51: and :iconmantablade: with photos as proof. It was pretty cool ("OKAY MAYBE I DIDN'T SPECIFY WHICH BEANBAG I WAS REFERING TO!" XD)

Overall, it was the best expo I had, I will hopefully have even more fun in October.
